Nima Karimi, PhD
Dr. Karimi is a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Wildfire Analytics research team. He completed his PhD degree in Environmental Systems Engineering in May 2022 at the University of Regina.
Nima's main research interest is to find research-related solutions for environmental anomalies. To that end, he has used a variety of engineering and monitoring tools, including but not limited to machine learning, satellite imagery and remote sensing, government of Canada census and vector data, GIS network analysis (optimizing vehicle routing problems), benefit-cost analysis, and multicriteria decision-making models (such as the Analytical Hierarchy Process) to address environmental issues in Canada, specifically in the Prairies. His PhD research integrated remote sensing satellite imagery, machine learning tools, and GIS network analysis to develop a regional solid waste management system. In his new role with Wildfire Analytics, Nima will be applying his diverse skillset to develop new approaches for characterizing wildfire exposure and hazard to inform community protection planning. Nima enjoys learning, implementing, writing, publishing, and presenting his achievements in top-tier journals and conferences. He aims to produce research outcomes that improve living conditions and protect our environment. |
